Sometimes my work has focused more on design, other times it was artwork and illustration. What I’ve discovered is that they’re not separate. Every image and every design consist of the same elements, composition, color, line… etc. A career in graphic design has made my art better, and making art has given my design a unique style and voice.

My recent series of paintings are portraits. Mostly family and friends, I do my best to capture a sense of who the subject is. Making a portrait for someone, one that will always remind them of some special feels pretty good, and I can’t think of a better use of my art than to bring some positivity.

My Sketchbook

Some drawings from my sketchbooks. I love drawing from life, and I've been fortunate to live in a city where there are a lot of opportunities, with some great models.

Storyboards/Concept Art

“A picture’s worth a thousand words” - I just made that up. Having a great idea or concept isn’t any good if it can’t be communicated correctly to the people making decisions. A well-done storyboard or concept drawing can convey the idea without any room for misinterpretation. The following are examples of storyboards done for an interactive sales piece, outdoor ads, and for some photography direction.

Product Illustration

A good illustration communicates the right idea in the clearest way possible. It can provide a spark of imagination and creativity in the mind of the viewer, and make a connection between what they have just seen and a clients’ product or message. Product illustration can really set a mood or give a unique identity that photography can’t always do. Here are some of my favorite recent illustrations.
